Dr. J.J. Sweeney dies; Doylestown Burgess
Bucks County Physician was Coroner, Overseas Surgeon
Dr. John J. Sweeney, prominent Bucks County physician and burgess of Doylestown, died yesterday at his home of a heart attack. He was 57 and had just returned to his residence from a call when he was stricken.
He had served as coroner of Bucks County 12 years, was a major in the Medical Corps in the first World war and served overseas as a surgeon starting as a lieutenant in the 320th Infantry, 80th Division. recently he was elected president of the Doylestown World War II Memorial Committee.
Dr. Sweeney was a member of the American Legion, surgeon of Doylestown Post, V.F.W., and president of the Doylestown Board of Health. He is survived by his wife, Alice; two sons, George and John and a daughter, Betty, all of Doylestown; a brother, Michael Sweeney, coach at Atlantic City High School, and a sister, Mrs. Lou Young, of Philadelphia, wife of the former coach at the University of Pennsylvania.
